At Floor Coverings International of Wexford, PA and the greater Pittsburgh area, we love bringing you creative insight and perspectives from bloggers who are kind enough to share their wisdom and how they got started. Today we have an interview with Christine and Jan, DIY designers and longtime bloggers at Little House On The Corner.
Please tell us a little about yourself.
We’re Christine and Jan, two first time home-owners on a mission renovating our Edwardian home and trying to turn it into a home. Over at Little House On The Corner, we’re documenting and sharing our home improvement and DIY experiences.
Why did you decide to start a blog? What do you enjoy about blogging?
We have a lot of friends and family that live abroad (mainly in New Zealand and Germany) so it seemed like a perfect way to share our adventures with them. I’m sure they all got sick of us constantly telling them house related stories and this way they can check in on our progress when they feel like it. We also use it as a kind of house diary – there’s nothing more motivating to keep going than looking at before and after pictures and seeing how far we’ve come.
How would you describe your design style?
A work in progress! We’re always learning new things and discovering new possibilities. We think that developing a style and room over time is the best way to achieve a result that you’re happy with, truly represents who you are and will stand the test of time.
Where do you find most of your inspiration?
We’re firm believers in doing what you like in your own home. Having said that, we’re definitely influenced by beautiful images and homes that we see in interior magazines or on other blogs – oh, and of course Pinterest!
Tell us about a recent project you’re proud of.
We’ve tackled so many projects in the last five years that’s it’s difficult to pick a favourite. This summer we build a slatted garden fence from scratch. It turned out amazingly well and we’re so proud of what we were able to achieve – I’m sure our neighbours thought we’d gone mad when they saw us painting hundreds of pieces of wood! Seeing everything come together as you imagine is always a huge buzz.
Our favourite post is probably the post about how we sanded our floors. Sanding the floors was such hard work and I think the post really gives a true impression of how tough but rewarding DIY can be.
