Blogger InterviewHere at Floor Coverings International Pittsburgh, we love sharing insights and inspirations with you from talented bloggers. Today, we have an interview with home design blogger and mother Emily, who loves DIY projects and creating a home for her family. She is a successful writer on sites across the web and the creator of her own blog, Our house now a home.

1. Please tell us a little about yourself.
Hi, I’m Emily and I blog at Our house now a home. I am married with 3 young kids. I like to decorate my home in a way to make it work with my need for a pretty space and the needs of my young family. Using low cost ideas, crafts, upcycles, DIY projects, organization and a mix of new pieces to make our house into a home.

2. Why did you decide to start a blog? What do you enjoy about blogging?
I started blogging as a way to share my love of all things home. I wanted to meet like-minded people who would be willing to talk paint colors and wood floors all day. I enjoy the connections I make with people, sharing my home and getting to know theirs as well. Only recently am I thinking long term and seeing the possibilities with my blog. That is so rewarding!

3. How would you describe your home decor and DIY style?
My style is casual and simple with pops of color. I have a lively household and the things in the home have to show that off. The specific style I am into is coastal, I grew up in Southern California and my love of the beach is represented in my home. My husband grew up in the country of Wisconsin, so I mix a little farmhouse and rustic to represent him as well.

4. Where do you find your inspiration?
I find inspiration in my family. I decorate for them, my kids, for us. This is the home where we make memories. I have little touches of each child or family heirlooms all displayed. I get inspired by the story of a home and the people living in it. I like to make that function and work for all people involved.

5. Tell us about a recent project you’re proud of.Bunk Bed DIY Project
I recently finished my boys’ bedroom. They are 6 and 4, their bedroom had not been decorated since they were babies. I worked so hard on this, making the space function for my bigger boys. I am proud of the work I did, building their built-in bunk beds and really bringing together a whole concept. From the colors featured, to the furniture, toy storage, play space and pictures it was all well thought out and executed. I am usually a decorator not on a mission, decorating on a whim is my standard. I planned this bedroom from top to bottom and am really proud of the results. They love their bedroom too, which is the best reason of all!

6. Is there anything else you’d like to share?
I think in general people need to decorate their home for them. I hear all the time people being scared to try something, worried if it is trendy. Your home and decorating it is so personal. Trends come and go, that place you go to at the end of the day… your home will always be there. Decorate and plan for you.
